first try: ficus benjamina

Recently I decided to convert my 12 year old badly trimmed ficus Benjamin to bonsai. And with the help of "bonsai for beginners" I made my first trial one month ago as you can see in the photo. The stone is amethyst. I made the arrangement as the stone and roots let me. I am thinking of designing the bonsai by strengthening one branch. New leaves are growing from this branch already, and I take this as a good sign. I spray water to the roots that are above the earth, and the earth twice a day. I try to keep them moist but I can not decide what to do with the roots. Do you think the roots will grow towards the earth? or should I trim the thin roots? To hear your advice will make me really happy...
